Rebecca Gomez, Ph.D., serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, advancing the school’s academic programs and fostering innovation. A distinguished researcher in complex trauma, her work significantly impacts child and family well-being, examining the effects of trauma and substance use within families. Her research bridges gaps between substance use and child welfare, developing holistic interventions that promote recovery across generations. Dr. Gomez also focuses on improving child welfare workforce strategies, enhancing professional readiness to address trauma. Nationally recognized, she has consulted on judicial cases and prepared legislative reports, shaping policies related to trauma and recovery. With over 20 years in clinical social work, Dr. Gomez previously held leadership positions at Virginia Commonwealth University and Our Lady of the Lake University. Her work is funded by prominent institutions, and she is an active member of the editorial board for Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal and the CSWE National Nominating Committee. In 2020, she received the CSWE’s Award for Distinguished Contributions to Social Work Education.
