CARES for Spouses

Loving Them Shouldn’t Mean Losing Yourself

If your partner is struggling with addiction, you’re likely carrying more than you ever imagined—fear, confusion, anger, guilt, grief. You may feel like you’re walking on eggshells, holding everything together while silently falling apart.

At CARES, we see you. We’re here to help you heal, not just hold on.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Being married to or partnered with someone facing substance use disorder can feel incredibly isolating. You may be juggling kids, finances, work, and a crumbling relationship, all while asking yourself, “What happened to us?”

CARES was created for caregivers like you—spouses, partners, and loved ones who need support, clarity, and community while navigating the chaos of addiction.

Supporting Your Partner, And Yourself

When your spouse or partner is battling substance abuse, it can feel as though your entire world has been flipped on its head. The emotional toll is immense, as you navigate the complexities of supporting a loved one while also tending to your own well-being. Striking a balance between being a reliable source of support and ensuring your own mental and physical health is often a delicate struggle.

That’s where CARES comes in. This organization offers a comprehensive array of resources tailored specifically for caregivers. From educational materials that enhance your understanding of substance abuse issues to skill-building workshops that equip you with effective coping strategies, CARES is dedicated to empowering you. They provide guidance on self-care practices, enabling you to manage your own stress and emotions as you seek to support your partner. By fostering this balance, you can be a better advocate for your loved one while maintaining your own health and happiness during such a challenging time.

We are excited to introduce the Cornerstone CARES speaker series, a collaborative initiative with The Texas CARES Program and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. Starting at Cornerstone Church ATX, our series aims to reach communities across the nation, creating a supportive environment for families affected by addiction. Through these sessions, we will share personal stories, expert insights, and evidence-based strategies to assist individuals and families on their journey to recovery. Join us in building a compassionate community dedicated to healing and hope.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to show up.

The overarching mission of CARES is to create an environment where “those who love and protect can feel love and protection.” Each gathering is a step towards helping caregivers find clarity and confidence in their roles, equipping them with the knowledge to navigate the recovery landscape without the burden of doubt.
