Spotlight on Speaker: Mayan Herman, LCSW-S

Mayan Herman, LCSW-S, is a clinical assistant professor, where she imparts her knowledge and experience to undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as a practicum liaison, facilitating hands-on learning experiences for both BSW and MSW students. Herman also teaches advanced courses at the master’s level, where she fosters a deeper understanding of complex social work concepts.

Prior to her academic role, Herman gained valuable experience as a therapist at the Moonstone Counseling Center, where she provided therapeutic support and guidance to individuals facing various mental health challenges. Her extensive background also includes serving as a bilingual medical social worker at Community Care, where she adeptly navigated the complexities of healthcare systems to advocate for her clients’ needs across linguistic and cultural barriers.

Herman’s academic foundation began with her Bachelor of Social Work practicum at Child Protective Services in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a role that provided her with firsthand experience of the challenges in child welfare. She went on to earn her Master of Social Work from the prestigious University of Michigan, where she honed her skills and deepened her commitment to making a positive impact in her community.
